McGrath's Fish House My parents came down from Donnelly to take my sister to the airport yesterday, and Mom and I decided to have lunch in town before heading back up the mountain to Donnelly. My Dad had shopping to do, so Mom and I decided to eat at McGrath's since Dad doesn't like seafood. Being raised in Rhode Island, I sometimes wonder how he can't stand seafood. Dad missed a good meal in a nice restaurant! Mom and I were seated very fast into our booth, and our waitress, Kim, was right there to tell us about the lunch specials and to get us some water. Mom and I didn't see anything in the specials that interested us, but we ordered a fried calamari appetizer. Kim was there long enough for us to decide on our main courses, too, and we did that. The fried calamari appetizer came within 10 minutes of our ordering it, and it was served on a bed of lettuce or kale and with aeoli mayonnaise sauce. It was very tasty, and the calamari was tender. In the past, I have had calamari that is like chewing rubber bands, but this serving was not anything like it. We also had salads and bread was place on our table, but we didn't eat much of the bread so we wouldn't spoil our appetites for the main course. Our main courses came as Mom and I were finishing our salads and calamari. Kim was very nice and talked to us before leaving. After she left, Mom said that she was getting a good tip from us for her great service. For lunch, Mom had the Halibut Fish and Chips, and I had the grilled shrimp and scallops. Mom had a huge portion of fish and chips and thought she wasn't going to finish it. I told her she can take it home and finish it with 3 or 4 of her best friends, our cats and dogs! My shrimp and scallops came on skewers on a bed of rice with a side of fries and broccoli and carrots. There was also c**ktail sauce, but I chose to dip my seafood in the aeoli from the appetizer. YUMMY! The portion was just right for me to get full but not stuffed. Mom finished most of her fish and chips, and I ate almost everything, but left some of my fries on the plate. My boyfriend Robert joined us as we were finishing lunch, and we had a nice time together. Mom met him for the first time at this lunch, and it went well. The prices at McGrath's are a little more than most restaurants in the Boise area, but it is very much worth it. There is a bar and an oyster bar there along with live lobsters for dinner. It is near the Edward's Movie Complex and WalMart and is an ideal spot for dinner before or after seeing a movie or shopping. |
