Louie’s Pizza & Italian Restaurant in Meridian on 2500 E Fairview Ave. still holds the charm when it comes to consistent food at reasonable prices. Louie’s is a family-friendly spot that is popular with both kids and adults alike. We see the same staff members waiting tables year after year. Louie Mallane, and his wife Margaret, both hail from the Calabria region of southern Italy. Back in the 60’s Louie started his Italian restaurant in Ketchum, eventually moving to the greater Boise area to be closer to family. (The second location on W. Idaho Street in downtown Boise closed a few years ago.)
So how has this establishment been able to stay open for several decades? Inexpensive kids’ meals and occasional promotions like $5.95 pasta, salad, and garlic bread at lunch and dinner time seem to draw them in! Louie’s also has a birthday special. Sign up online and get a coupon emailed in time to celebrate your birthday. They also have a VIP club that sends coupons such as $10 off your tab (and no minimum purchase).
The menu consists of lots of pasta dishes, salads, pizza and calzones. Their salads and homemade dressings are always enjoyable, and the basket of freshly baked garlic bread is gratifying! On our last visit we devoured a fried calamari and marinara sauce appetizer ($7.45) called Calamari Fritta. Entrees included Insalada Gorgonzola ($7.95); Meat Ravioli in a rich tomato sauce; and Cheese Tortellini in creamy Alfredo (both $10.50). The salad was loaded with gorgonzola cheese, chicken, and toasted walnuts. The two pasta entrees were handcrafted and served piping hot. For dessert we shared an enormous rich slice of chocolate cake for an unbelievable low price of $3.50. Not only was dessert a bargain, it was simply delicious and satisfying!
Don’t forget to check out Louie’s low-priced Sunday brunch buffet ($8.99 adults, children 10 and under $3.95) from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. They are open daily: Monday through Thursday 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., Friday and Saturday 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., Sunday 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Buon Appetito!
