We’ve been hearing rave reviews about Sa-Wad-Dee Thai in Meridian so we paid a visit to see for ourselves. Beyond a doubt the food exceeded expectations so now the only question remains to lovers of Thai food, why haven’t you been yet? This is one of those unobtrusive places in a strip mall so watch for the address, 1890 E. Fairview Ave, directly across the street from D&B Supply. While the exterior is nothing to look at, the inside is laced with Thai decorations and a wall mural. The front of the window-lined restaurant is drenched in sun all day.
Our waitress was attentive and informative, describing many of the dishes as well as the choices of rice. We shared a large bowl of Tom Yum Koong Soup ($5.99) at the suggestion of our server. It was a heavenly soup with a rich lemongrass flavor and large chucks of mushrooms and sliced chicken. Since we ordered entrees our lunch came with a small garden salad which had an unusual mustard enhanced dressing; topped off with a surprise of a delicate Crab Rangoon. Our Pad See Eew (with beef) and Red Curry (with chicken and tofu) came with large scoops of jasmine rice. Fried rice or brown rice is available as well as jasmine. Pad See Eew is flat noodles pan fried with meat, egg, broccoli and carrots for $7.99. Flavorful and spicy, this is a nice change of pace from Pad Thai noodles. The Red Curry, also $7.99, was a blend of spice and coconut milk with bamboo shoots, zucchini, red peppers and whole basil leaves. Absolutely mouth watering!
We’ll be returning to Sa-Wad-Dee soon to try an intriguing sounding item from the menu; Shrimp in the Mud, $9.99 or maybe the House Combination Platter with Chicken Satay, Fried Spring Rolls, Shrimp in a blanket and Fried Vegetables, all for just $12.99. Top off your lunch or dinner with the FBI dessert, fried bananas wrapped in wontons with coconut ice cream, chocolate and honey sauces, and toasted coconut.
Weekday lunch is served from 11 until 3. Refer to their web site as their hours vary on the weekends. For lunch specials visit their web site: http://www.sawaddeethai.com/mu_lunch.htm
This would be a great place to go with several friends and share various entrees with. Remember, Sawadee means hello!
