El Gringo's was a family favorite for over 20 years. We were truely upset when we heard they were closing. They had the best chips and salso in town. The chips were fresh (stale most places) and the salso was home made an so good. Our son lives in Seattle and when he comes home to visit it is the first place he wanted to go. We are very sorry to see it closed. We have met to contact the owner for some time in hopes to tell them how sorry we are they are no longer in business and also to see if we could get the salsa recipe.
At any rate it was a neighborhood favorite and we will miss you!

My Take
I was pretty sure that South Of The Border should hold the " Mexican Food Imposter " sign all to themselves, but this place is grabbing at it and trying to take it away. I heard El Gringoused to be the best in Boise years back, I'm not sure if we have gotten better resturants in the valley or this place has gotten worse, none the less, I will never go back.

Uninspired food at its best ... or is that worst?
The name may lead you to think that the restaurant is a witty take on Mexican cuisine, or perhaps I just read too much into it?it is after all just a name. However, name aside, the food was bland, bland, bland, and more bland. I am, generally, of the belief that it?s pretty hard for Mexican food not be flavorful, but El Gringo managed to achieve total flavor-free perfection. I?m sincerely hoping it was just an off night.
