Between Pierce Park and Ellen’s Ferry on 6100 State Street is Splendor Bistro. It’s a quiet restaurant with white linen glass topped tables and soothing green walls in a rather Zen-like interior. There’s also a convenient drive-thru window.

Splendor Bistro is currently open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The owner said they would expand their hours if they could find help. On the day of our visit the waitperson was new and could not tell us any of the sandwich features, what was popular or what kinds of bread the sandwiches came on. The rather limited menu lists salads, $6.95 - $8.95; or panini’s and sandwiches, $7.95. Quiche is made daily for $4.95 a slice, or add soup or salad for $6.95. There’s also a daily soup such as tomato basil or clam chowder. A cup of soup, $2.75, bowl $4.95 or with salad $6.95.

Sarah’s Smokin’ Chicken Salad sandwich was served on ordinary toasted bread and although flavorful and crunchy the chicken salad was salty. The use of the word “Smokin” let us to believe the sandwich would have some heated spice! An accompanying side Caesar salad contained crisp Romaine and a simple dressing and plenty of crunchy homemade croutons. We ordered a side of tasty pasta salad ($2.50) that was absolutely bursting with large chunks of sundried tomatoes; artichoke hearts; olives, and heavy on the feta. The chocolate chip cookie ($1.50) held a surprise of heath bar or butterscotch chunks melted in.
