sweetwaters closes but this place remains open ???
this place is still open ? the other local non-chain carribean place - Sweetwaters was a million times better and it recently closed.

I would guess not for long though. I go to the movies every saturday night and the parking lot for Tuscanos is always empty

I'm from the land of Churrasco
Hey folks, I am a true Gaúcho working here in Boise for a month. I got really curious about all the comments so I am going to Tucanos tonight. I will write a review late, and regardless of each ones taste here, I will tell you if this is a true churrasco or not smilies/wink.gif

Way Way BAD
Holy Salt Mine, Batman; since when does dousing every chunk of meat you can skewer on a metal rod and roasting it over a gas fires infra-red burner qualify in any way as Brazilian? Sorry, but crap. Feaky salad bar looked like the one at Sizzler (well, so I am told) and the schtick with the meat servers got old real quick. Horrid maxo salt content on everything will surely keep the older set coming in for masively over priced pap. Is there any good food left to be had in this town?

First time guest
Visiting Boise for the weekend and thought i'd visit Tucanos after reading all the reviews here.

What can I say? Absolutely amazing. So we were there for lunch and the food service and staff were great. We had the all you can eat (and enjoy) platter. All the meats and vegeies were amazing.

The staff were super friendly in explaining the menu and attending to us. Will definitely visit again.

This place is awesome!
To those that are whining about small pieces of meat, that is true, but the meat is all you can eat as well as the salad. All you have to do is say "more please" and they will give you the entire skewer if you desire. Yeah, it can be a long wait to get in, because they are so popular. For those whining about the spices, ITS BRAZILLIAN. If you want "a good steak" then go to an AMERICAN steak house. Tucanos is a treat for both the taste buds, and the experience!

I had no problems. Just tell the server how much you want. I felt "plump" when the group left and most of the same" groupie" bunch went back 3 days later to get "plump" for the dinner meal. With the patrons feel cheated not going back maybe the wait will not be as long. Wendy's is calling you.

Okay Meal.
Most of the meat was so-so. The brazilian lemonade was awesome! The salad bar is abundant but lacked flavor for the most part. It was a fun experience, but I'm glad I only paid $10 for our 2 meals, or else I would have been very disappointed.

cheap flavor of the month place...
Wife and I went in February. We had a reservation but still had to wait 45 min to get seated. Apparently if you are a pseudo boise famous type you will get seated promptly...i saw a FOX News channel 12 anchorwoman ( the ditsy one that cant ever get though a show without flubbing a word or two) get seated immediately while many of us continued to wait.

Anyway on to the food review. Well in essence, we paid $20 each for a salad that a cheap diner could compete with. The meat guys, whenever you saw one, gave very small pieces and move on. They purposely take their time so unless you want to sit there for 2 hrs you will never see all 6 meats.

Theyre of course hoping you fill up on their cheap salad bar of fried banannas, quail eggs, and lettuce with choice of watered down dressings.

The place is very noisy and annoying. Every 5 min someone had a birthday or something cause out came the bongo drum line. Maybe if they didnt have 4 staff playing drums to some table they could serve the meat a little faster ?

The filet mignon slice i got, about the sice of half a dollar bill and paper thin was pretty good.

Overall, a total fraud of a restuarant and only popular with the fast food crowd who want to be seen at the newest flavor of the month. Personally i wouldnt go back if the meal was free

Cant Breathe
So I left and I am dizzy because I ate way too much! I couldn't help myself the food was so good. Filet, steak, pork, lamb this place has it all even the bartender are nice which is hard to find these days. My only complaint is that they don't allow to go boxes, but I did take my dessert to go and it sure tastes good right now!

Meat Factory
I am not one to stuff my face with meat so needless to say I was not exited to visit Tucanos for the first time. After the initial shock I realized that this is one fun and welcoming place. I had so much salad from the over 60 items or so my server said "Reneee" was fabulous by the way, that I never even had to consider the meat. Thank god for a restaurant that offers diversity with flair! I will definately go back!

Tucanos is great
I have been to the newest restaurant in the valley 3 times now and I will continue to go back. The staff is genuine and the food is fantastic but what I really like the most is that when I wanted something different than what was offered they went the extra mile to take care of me, now that is what I call service! Good job and good luck I think you will be around for a long time!

So Far, So Good!
My wife and I went to Tucano's on its "soft opening" night and had a wonderful experience. Despite the heavy turnout, the staff did a fantastic job and the meal was right up there with a great Brazilian grill I dined at in Manhattan a number of years ago. Boise has a tendency to mob new places (think Outback, Lone Star Steak House, P.F. Chang's) until the novelty wears down a bit. I think this will be less likely in the future as our own culinary scene matures, but until then I'd give Tucano's the benefit of the doubt. Like any new biz, they have to work the bugs out -- but unlike most other businesses, they don't have the luxury of doing it out of the spotlight's glare. I would definitely go back, and plan to. More than the novelty of the culinary niche, I think the food and service we experienced were good enough to stand on their own merits. smilies/wink.gif

What a waste of time and money!!!!!
Went to this new restaurant with high hopes, and ended up disgusted in the long run. Service with lame, and the food was over done with Garlic. What are you guys tring to hide with all the seasoning??? I decided to go to a good steak house in the neighborhood instead. Where I could get great service and food that wasn't over seasoned. Won't be going back to that cheap place again, you really get what ya pay for there... NOTHING....smilies/tongue.gif This place will probally be shut down by the end of the year. If you people are smart you will go some place else and spend a few more $$ and enjoy yourself more, trust me!!!!

Tucano's lived up to its billing. We went for lunch last Saturday with a large group from Washington, Montana and Utah. The Utah group had been to Tucano's in SLC and Provo and said that the quality was equal to what they had experienced (which was excellent). The turkey wrapped bacon and honey glazed pineapple are superb in addition to everything at the salad bar right down to the sushi. Fun atmosphere and great food. Word of caution: not a place for an intimate romantic dinner. This is a very festive Brazilian place so you can imagine how noisy it can get.

Trip To Tucanos
We dined at Tucanos on Valentines Day. We had reservations and were told that our wait would be about 30 minutes. That's doable. The waiting area was packed and it was too cold outside with our baby, so we sat in our car. For 90 minutes. We kept checking with the hostess, but I was disappointed with the wait time.
Once we were seated our server was great, we ordered the whole deal with the meat and salad festival. I would have liked more meat more often, but I understand the place was packed. The salad festival was really good, they had some delicious prepared salads. We both ordered Brazilian lemonades, and they were brought out to us in a pitcher, which was good because we didn't have to wait for refills, but overall, the lemonades aren't worth the price. More lime flavor than raspberry or strawberry (the flavors we ordered).
