Work Downtown One of my favorite places for lunch downtown. Excellent fried chicken, homeade mac & cheese and the green been hammock are all delicious. I haven't tried much else as I really like all of these. I have taken or talked at least 6-7 people into going and they all loved it and even my very picky co worker from down south thought it was good. |

Student Some of the best BBQ ribs I've ever had...and I lived in the south for 15 years...so I know good ribs. I also happen to be partial to their style of pulled pork...which is tangy and flavorful, somewhat like the "Carolina" style pulled pork that you can get at GoodWood. A Taste of Memphis is better, however. The pork sandwich is served with cole slaw, but personally I like the cole slaw on the side, and the friendly staff is happy to oblige. The seafood gumbo is also fantastic, as is their homemade bannana pudding. This is one of the few places in the area where you can get authentic hushpuppies...which for you yankees are fried balls of cornbread batter, enhanced with some herbs and spices. I've had better hushpuppies, but that didn't stop me from sharing a large side order of them with my brother (who was born in Alabama, and thinks they are some of the best hushpuppies he's had--well, I guess our tastes differ). And of course, another small detail that makes the experience just that much better...the sweet tea. I found it not too sweet, but sweet enough to bring back memories of southern living. Ya'll should definitely give this place a try. |
