I can't believe all these negative comments I'm seeing here. I used to work at the Blue Ribbon when it first opened up and the food was always great. I have taken my parents to dine here as well and they enjoyed every bit of it. We have been to just about all the top restaurants in Seattle so we know good taste!! And as an aspiring chef I hope that over the past couple years that I've moved away from the Bistro, it really has not lost the taste it once had!!

Not Bad, BUT Not Good Either
OK, so I went here with some friends who convinced me to give it a try even though I have several friends who have eaten here and told me it was pretty bad. Yes, I had even read some of the reviews below and, to be honest, it did make it that much harder for me to want to give this place a try. I forced myself to go there with an open mind because I know that one man's trash is another man's treasure... Right? The place looks nice, but it wasn't very busy, so I became more concerned, but fought to keep it in check. The wait staff was OK, nothing spectacularly good or bad about them, just ordinary. The food, well, I do agree with those below that it is very much over priced. I wouldn't say it was aweful or complete garbage, but it wasn't very good either. It was just OK, again, nothing special. I thought it was really ordinary, at best, and I can honestly say that I've had some microwave food that was much better when it comes to texture, look, and taste. Again, not exactly crap on a plate, but nothing that I would go out of my way to reccomend to someone else or spend my money there again.

The gentleman below my response is a hired comedian by the Bulls Head Station. Google him. Know wonder why he has good things to say. He needs the work. I have seen far too many unethical, not to mention dangerous things going on "behind the scenes" there. All the way down to trying to salvage rotten meat.

Great Food
I've had several great meals at the Blue Ribbon Bistro along with very friendly professional service and have witnessed no unsatisfied customers. In reading the incredibly vitriolic slew of over the top negativity, all with similar recurring themes and expressions, I can only believe that it is an orchestrated attempt by some one bent on vengeance for a perceived wrong (disgruntled former employee?), or unethical competitor or such. The fact that almost all the reviews are negative to such an exaggerated extreme is a dead giveaway. The "bread was stale, the server unfriendly and the water glasses filthy"? And you still stayed for the entire meal? Really???? The food is excellent, the service is excellent, the entertainment upstairs is first class.smilies/grin.gifsmilies/smiley.gif

Not fit for humans
My collegue told me about this site and she wrote the review below. I agree with her, this was a terrible experience and a complete waste of money. Army food and, perhaps, even prison food is better than the vomit covered slop served at this so-called bistro. I think they go dumpster diving to select their menu items/ingredients from the garbage bins behind other restaurants. I'm starting to gag by just the memory of the crap I had. I have nothing good to say; the whole experience was worst-in-class from the moment we entered, to the unfriendly employees, to the stale bread, to the filthy water glasses, to the poor service, to the absolutely horrific food, to the exorbitant prices they charge, to the clueless and uncaring manager, everything was terrible. The food is so bad that they should pay you to take it off their hands. To charge any amout for this culinary after-birth should be a crime punished by life in prison!!!

Not good at all
When I read in the Idaho Statesman how some relatively good restaurants have had to close their doors during these terrible economic times (Andrae's, Milky Way, Mortimer's, Chandler's, Tony Romas, and others), it simply boggles the mind how such a sub-par, significantly worse than average restaurant like this so-called Bistro manage to stay in business. I can't believe that there are so many people with such poor taste and so much extra cash in this town who spend it all at this dump. Maybe its habit or laziness or even the fact that the good restaurants in the area have a wait time for a table longer than 30 seconds that forces enough of the good citizens of the area to waste their hard earned money on such poor quality food at a restaurant who doesn't give a damn about any of you! Yes, the owners are laughing all the way to the bank every time you give them your money in exchange for the slop they call food. How do you justify paying for days old bread, left over sides and meals from the day before, re-heated crap from a can, wilted lettuce, "recycled" meals, spoiled food, etc? WAKE UP! In these times take your money to places that 1) respect and actually appreciate your business, and 2) give you a decent meal with fresh ingredients for your money. Having said all this, you've probably figured out by now that I had an absolutely terrible meal at this place and the service was just as bad.

I can't tell you how disapointed I was with this place - the worst garbage I have ever had. The chef must have got his/her certificate from a box of Cracker Jacks or something because he/she has absolutely no skill. I've had better food in a school cafeteria. Please don't waste your hard earned money at this place like we did.

I read someone's post below that this was a "dog's breakfast", well, I wouldn't feed this stuff to my dog unless I wanted to punnish her for something. I have nothing good to say about the restaurant or its food, so I'll leave it at that.

Worst Experience I've Ever Had
Recently I brought some clients here for a business meal and was thoroughly disapointed and embarased. No one liked their meal. The whole experience was a disaster from being seated, to poor/inadequate service, to terrible appatizers, to woefully aweful meals. Several of us ended up complaining to the manager who seemed totally unconcerned and disinterested, not even offering up an apology. This manager only wanted to "challenge" us on our complaints and simply argue to get across his point that he did not care and that we did not know what we were talking about. Let me tell you, it doesn't take an expert food critic to know what stale bread, poor service, tasteless food, and aweful food tasts like. One of my clients went so far as to suggest that some of the food must have been left over and recycled from another day or week. I was telling a collegue about my experience and she told me that I should look up this web site and warn others. So here it is: CONSIDER YOURSELVES WARNED - THIS PLACE IS THE WORST OF THE WORST!

Central Health Department!
If you copy and paste this link it will take you to the website of the health department, and there you can read for your self about the inspections that was made on April 15th, and how the bistro had a violation in Area B; Cross Contamination; Equipment food-contact surfaces and utensils that are used in contact with potentially hazardous foods are not cleaned and sanitized properly.
To sum it up they were caught with their pants down for serving food on dirty dishes. I am glad that 'Tanya' like her cooked food on dirty plates, and even more happy that she didn't complain about getting sick, she sure lucked out.
I suggest you all restaurant diners do you home work before you go out and eat, and look on the website and see what else is crawling around in the kitchens before stepping into food establishments, but hey, what you don't know, doesn't hurt.
Another high ranked establishment ASIAGO had violations, maybe it is time to do some homework before forking out high paid dinner bills.

Culinary Abortion
The title pretty much sums up what I was served. The only thing "authentic" about the place (I have a hard time calling it a restaurant since a restaurant serves edible food) was the obvious discontent of all the employees. There was loud music and vulgarities blaring into the restaurant from the kitchen. When I looked to the source of the commotion I was drawn to the employee feast going on right next to the food being served to us!! Most of the servers were stuffing their face in view of the customers. Our server ate right over our tray of food, wiped her hands on a towel just sitting there and proceeded to deliver our food. What a disgusting display. The steak must have been mixed up with something that was supposed to braise for 3 or 4 hours. It was as tough as trying to enjoy myself at this over-priced, sad excuse for a restaurant. It was advertised as a 16 oz cut which turned out to be about 5 oz fat and 7 oz of meat. I don't know where the rest went, maybe the RATS got it. Whoever wrote the website and referred to this place as "European indulgence" obviously hasn't eaten here or been to Europe. I've been more delighted at the hot dog cart at 6th and Main at 2 am-though in all fairness, the hots dogs were made fresh unlike the Bistro's brick bread. THEY SUCK SAVE YOUR MONEY AND GO TO RED ROBIN OR THE HOT DOG CART!!!!!!!!!!! BOO ON YOU BISTRO!!!!!!!!

I did not have very good food or service when they first opened. We since have been back for the comedy night and have loved it. I ordered the chicken pot pie the first time and was not happy with the price vs the portion that you get but since i went back i have tried several different things (wings were great) and I have to say I am glad I returned. The service has been great and its something fun and different to do with the comedy night. Keep up the good work!

I agree with the majority of the comments below. The food was poor and overpriced, and our complaint seemed to fall on deaf ears. Sounds like Michael below is more than a bit paranoid with what he wrote. Maybe he should be more concerned about food quality and service. His comments below are familiar to those we received when we complained (don't know if it was Michale or not), since all we received were excuses as to why the food was so poor and why our complaints were not justified. The comments that made it sound as if we were wrong and didn't know what we were talking about were insulting. Instead of being paranoid, maybe Michael should spend his time finding someone, anyone, who can actually cook a good meal. Thank you.

This slew of negative comments within a 2 month period makes it hard for me to believe these are for the most part real customers of the Bistro. Having completed many tabe touches and exit interviews with the customers and receiving an infrequent negative comment I am inclined to say that these dissatisfied customers failed to communicate their experience to the staff so we could make an attempt to correct the experience or that these posts are being constructed in an attempt to discourage others from visiting.

I would welcome any of these people who posted their comments to contact me to discuss each of their guest experience.

Worst Meal Ever
I agree with the lady who wrote the review that "they obviously don't wan't business" because we tried to make reservations as well, but were also unsuccessful. They said they were busy and that they'd call back, but they never did. So, we decided to go over and see for ourselves - if they were so busy that they couldn't take a reservation, then the food must be good, right? WRONG! The place was nearly empty. There were only three other tables with customers and after getting our meals we quickly understood why there were so many empty tables - the food was just awful and the service was just as awful. My kid's $1.25 school luch is far superior to what this place serves. The chef, if that's what he/she reall is, should be run out of town.

This was BAD!
I should have read the reviews about this place before going there because they were right! A dog's breakfast? Maybe more like a rat's breakfast. Stale bread - yes. At first I wasn't sure if the bread basket placed on the table contained bread or unusually large croutons for the salad. Needless to say, the olive oil was a must. Food quality was very poor. Way overpriced. Very disappointing.

I was planning on taking my wife & mother here on mother's day, so I decided to check it out first. Boy, am I glad I did that before taking them out there for a dismal meal and a exorbitant bill.

Wholly Crap! This place is BAD!
Worst meal I have ever had at a restaurant. TERRIBLE! What made it worse was that we took some out of town visitors there and every one of us was very displeased with the food - if you care to call what they served as food. We complained, but got nothing but a blank stare from the clueless manager. After a few moments of this, the manager then became a bit confrontational by defending the poor quality of the food and essentially saying that we didn't know what we were taling about. WILL NEVER GO THERE AGAIN!
