If you are looking for great food, ethnic flavor, an intimate setting, and the feeling like you are among family, get to Epi's! This small basque restaurant located in an old craftsman style home in the middle of old Meridian (a Boise suburb) makes you feel like you are sitting in the Ansoutegi family home, not their restaurant. Fantastic Food!

Tim: Do try Epi's
Epi's is a great eating experience. I visit Nampa several times a year and always try to include dinner at Epi's. There is a terrific variety of food on the menu, from beef, lamb, fish and meatballs or tongue. When I asked about tongue, the preparation was described in such specific and loving detail that I ordered it. "Really?" was my charming hostesses response? Probably not a big seller. I found it delicious and would order it again.

Other reviewers have commented on price. You get your money's worth. The portions are generous and there are extras. The bread and soup/beans or salad are good and it is not unusual to see people carrying styofoam boxes of entree out to enjoy later.

They have been serving and pleasing customers for ten years so they are obviously doing something(s) right. Reservations are a good idea and it is nice to go during the week instead of weekend because they are able to spend more time with each table.

Keith Botkin: Absolutely Number One
I lived in the Seattle for three decades and my wife and I dined in fine restaurants often. We counted one time and found we had been to seventy three restaurants that we would happily visit again. Years ago I dined in the Coconut Grove in Los Angles when it was the "in" place for Hollywood. I had to return to Meridian to Epi's Basque Restaurant to find the finest dining experience I have ever beeen privileged to enjoy. I have dined there several times and always found whatever was selected cooked to prefection. I have never experienced service to standup to the personal touch found at Epi's. The casual country home atmosphere and exquisite service that make you feel included as part of the family are unequaled. It is absolutely tops in my book.

Erica Cornwall: Treat yourself!
You have to try Epis! Make a reservation and take your best friend, it is like eating at somones home. You will make friends, and have a meal that could possibly be rated "as a top ten meals" of your life. I heard rumors that this was the resteraunt to try and I am so glad I took the advice. Treat yourself and enjoy.

Wildcat Dianne: Epi's
My friend Leslie and I share the same birthday, April 30. We were looking for a place to eat for our birthday this year when some friends of Leslie's recommended Epi's. It is located in the old downtown of Meridian and in an old house that gives the restaurant a cozy, intimate, and warm feeling and atmosphere.

Upon arriving at Epi's and after being seated, Leslie and I were cheerfully greeted by the owner Christine, who is the granddaughter of the the person the restaurant is named for. She was tickled when Leslie and I mentioned it was our birthday and were recommended by friends to try her place out. Christine gave us a detailed history of her grandmother's birth in the Spanish Basque country and how she and her husband raised seven children in Hailey, Idaho before her death in 1983 at the age of 80.

Basque cuisine is not all chorizo. There are many different and varied types of foods that will satisfy almost everyone's tastes. The menu at Epi's is small and there are daily specials that our very nice waitress, Jane, explained to Leslie and me. There are also domestic and imported beers and wines from Basque country. It was a tough decision for me to decide whether to order the halibut in a citrus crust with creamy lobster sauce or the salmon, but I finally went with the halibut and Leslie ordered steak marinated in vinegar and assorted herbs and spices.

It wasn't that busy when Leslie and I ate at Epi's and the service was quick and very courteous. Our meals came with soup and salad. I had the shrimp chowder with rice and Leslie had the Basque bean soup, which was like a chili with a thin broth. Our dinners came with French or Basque fries and fresh cauliflower in a delicious Monterey Jack bechamel sauce. Leslie could not finish all of her steak and got a doggie bag, but piggy me cleared her plate. It was that good. Our waitress joked, "Good girl, you cleaned your plate!" Leslie saved some room for flan in caramel sauce and it came with two candles in honor of our birthdays. It was a miracle both Leslie and I got up from the table after such a magnificent feast! Christine embraced us goodbye and wished us happy birthdays!

Epi's is a little bit more expensive than other restaurants in the Boise/Meridian area, but it is well worth the money. It is a great place to go to experience the Basque culture and cuisine, and have a nice dinner with friends or family.

taketheunder: just wonderful
I have been to Epi's three times. The bread and soups are superb.
I do not generally like red beans, but the red bean soup is delicous.
The people are friendly and know the menu. The lamb chops, halibut,
and steaks are wonderful. They treat everyone like family.
It can get very busy! Get reservations. If you do have to wait, they usually
bring out some table wine to sip on.
