Worst BBQ in Idaho
We had dinner at Mickey Rays in Eagle on March 13 2012 and it was the worst chicken BBQ I have ever had. it was dry with no flavor whatsoever. The sauce on the au gratin potatoes was so tangy I could not taste the potatoes. The brisket was ok. The other sides were ok. Not recommended and will not return.

Truly disgusting!
I ate there for the second time recently and couldn't believe how horrible it was. I thought it was good the first time, but that was probably about a year ago. I'm not sure what happened to the place. My daughter bit into a french fry and said it smelled like the monkey cages at the zoo. We all thought that was funny until we dug in and found that she was right! The fries did smell like that and tasted horrible! None of us could eat them. The beans tasted metallic and the black-eyed peas tasted strange. The catfish poor boy was okay. By the way, I got the fish, because there was a large, dead pig sitting behind a window for everyone to see and it made our stomach turn to think of eating it. One of my daughters ordered mac and cheese and didn't appreciate this "decoration". Yes, I know, that is what we are eating when we have pork, but do we need it on display? My daughter that wasn't bothered by the dead pig on display, did think the chopped pork was pretty good, but couldn't finish it after smelling the inside of the french fries. My husband thought the ribs were just okay, but we will never go back.

Very bad customer service..I had made a reservation for 10 people at 6:30
We arrived a few minutes early, was greeted by the waitress. Told her who I was, said she knew, but had been a hectic day and our reservation had been lost. Offered us a drink, said the wait time would 20-30 minutes. Said she would take another tour, see if they could accomadate us, came back said we could sit on the patio, that it had an overhead heater. We agreed to this, she went to set it up, came back to tell us the overhead heater was out of gas, but we could still sit out there. NO!! They had a tables set up for maybe 20 or more people sectioned off by a black curtain. Never once did she offer that to us, the other party was not there, we were. Guess it is easier to upset 10 people rather than a larger group, MORE MONEY!!! smilies/sad.gif We had been there several times, my husband loved the BBQ there. He was raised in the south and it reminded him of that. It was his birthday!!! We were very embarassed in front of friends and family!! smilies/sad.gif
We left, went to Famous Daves, had a short wait time there, but they got us in, the food was excellent as was the service!! :>)

Yikes, A LITTLE sumpin is right_ portions are insulting
Granted we are on the wrong side of the Mississippi to complain too much about BBQ, so I won't tell you what I really thought of the taste, but the portions were sad. I'm 6', 190lbs and polished of a meal for two by myself at the low price of $29.00 and was still hungry. Two lame slices of white bread, two slices of brisket, pulled pork that I think was really chicken, tiny ribs with maybe 2 to 3 inch long bones that was burt worse than Albertsons delli and 1/10 of a sausage that was sliced way thin. My three sides were in tiny foam containers that were only half full and they flat out sucked worse than the meats. I soooo wanted this to be a good experience, take out for the BSU/Nevada game day and if I had to recomend a beverage to go with this meal it would be Raineer, Pabst Ice or Hams. I'm quite sure I will have the shits too. This place has food for masochists who hate themselves. It is the first day of October and I don't give the place 2 months.

Delicious!
I took the waitress' recommendation for the chopped pork sandwich Memphis style (coleslaw on top) and it was the best pork sandwich I ever had. So I asked yet again for a dessert recommendation and the waitress delivered a huge piece of possum pie (pecan crust, cream cheese and chocolate pudding fillin, topped w/ whip cream). My family was fighting over it until the very last bite.
This will be a place I bring my family again!

Worst Brisket Ever!!
Im from Texas, so I love good bbq. Whenever there is a new bbq place in town, I have to try it. I went to MickeyRay’s with the high hopes of having great brisket.

I was very disappointed!

I asked the waitress if the brisket could be lean. Her response was that brisket was a very fatty cut of meat. She is right, but also dead wrong. In its raw form, brisket is indeed very fatty. But it can be trimmed and usually is. Some people like their meat fatty and greasy. Other folks, like me, like it lean with no fat at all.

Every bbq place I have been too gives the fatty stuff to those that like or don’t mind fat. If you request it, they will give you the lean stuff. Other places like Goodwood serve only lean brisket.

Either this waitress had no clue what she was talking about, didn’t care, or only knew the fatty stuff that MickeyRay’s serves. The later is probably the more likely story.

I decided to try the brisket anyway. When it came out, there was almost no meat to be found. The brisket was practically all fat. I left it sitting on the plate and swore to never return.

if good bbq is what you are looking for, keep looking
If your tastes lean towards Good Wood being high quality southern BBQ, you might feel right at home. We however prefer our fat to meat ratio to lean higher on the meat side with burnt ends and prefer our brisket to make our mouths droll from flavor, not dryness.

We also tried the "soggy" deep fried pickles, bland meatless baked beans and attemtp at slaw.

The sweet tea, while sweet was lacking a little somthing, oh yes, tea flavor.

I would not recommend this to my dog, let alone insult anyone with taste buds

Excellent BBQ! The best we have ever had. Everything my family ordered was delicious. The chopped pork was prefectly smoked and melted in your mouth. The prices were reasonable as well. The menu selection was great and had lots of southern food to choose from. Surprizingly we tried the fried pickels and the whole family loved them. We are definately coming back for regular visits and will call them for catering. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. smilies/cool.gif
