Better not

Well I can say all the previous reviews were correct.  Both the good and bad.

Service awkward at best.
Wait time excessive
Service help looked like thugs
Poor quality crab good enough steak.
Drinks arrived very slow.
No shade from sun.
Looks to me like they have a lot to learn about the business.

Good food - poor service
The food was good once we got what we ordered and actually were able to get the sauces that should go with the items. Service was extremely slow. There was hardly anyone else in the place except for a large party upstairs so they used that party as the excuse. Not a place I would ever go again, but wanted to give it a try. The only item that you really get good service on is water refils and those just keep coming. The prices are reasonable and the food did taste pretty good.

I had better service and food at Taco Bell
This was the second time we tried Darby's, the first experience was awful but we decided to give it a second chance. This was not a good decision. The service and food were both worse then our first experience. When we arrived we were seated and the waitress took our drink order and handed us menus. She brought our drinks and then disappeared. After 25 minutes the waitress came back to the table, said “no one had helped you yet?” we said no and then she sat down in our booth and started to explain how busy she was and how she couldn’t do everything in the restaurant by herself. She then took our order. We ordered salads, an appetizer (fried mushrooms), and steaks. After about 15 minutes we received our subpar salads (some of the lettuce was slimy and wilted) and drink refills. After being in the restaurant for 1.5 hours, we finally we received our dinner orders-which were wrong and never received our appetizer. We requested to speak to the manager and ended up leaving the restaurant without eating our food. As we were leaving the table next also requested to speak to the manager for the same issues (horrible service and wrong orders). After waiting 2 hours we were not going to wait for the staff to fix our order. We went to Taco Bell where we had fast, great service. I WOULD NEVER GO TO DARBY’S AGAIN AND WOULD NOT RECOMMEND IT TO ANYONE.

Great place to eat
We had seen mixed reviews of Darby's. We read about mediocre food and poor service. However, after having eaten there twice in January (2012), we can say that the food quite good and the service very attentive. We can recommend the salmon salad, prime rib, fish combination plates as well as the lobster. Next we plan on having a ribeye. Had a great dessert with the name "Wall" in it with ice cream, chocolate lava cake, caramel sauce & more. Our waitress both times was very attentive. Please give Darby's a try or a second chance, if applicable. They honestly are trying very hard to provide quality food & service. John & Sue from Nampasmilies/smiley.gif

With NEW management Darby's is reborn!
In the past week, I have had the pleasure of eating twice at Darby's. The staff was very friendly, courteous and prompt. The first meal was well preparerd, tasty and reasonably priced. The second was a requested suggestion to the server. She recommended the Chicken pot pie. I have had numerous chicken pot pies from restaurants around the US. Darby's was at the top for flakey crust, ingredients, flavor, presentation and over-all culinary supremacy. I would highly recommend Darby's for it's ambiance, cuisine, staff and reasonable pricing for the deliveous meals prepared.smilies/smiley.gifsmilies/smiley.gifsmilies/wink.gifsmilies/kiss.gif

HORRIBLE Service - I could STILL be waiting for a drink
The service was HORRIBLE. Which seemed especially odd, since there couldn’t have been more than 10 customers in the entire place and 4 ‘waitresses’. Our waitress cleared our dishes and clearly saw our beers were empty, but didn’t offer us more drinks. We tried to go to the bar for drinks, but the ‘waitresses’ were at the opposite end of the bar and apparently could not be bothered with customers. After 5 minutes of being ignored, we left. We can only conclude the owner is wealthy and does not need any revenue from the business, because nobody in their right mind would go there.

Terrible service, OK food
My wife and I decided to try Darby's A week ago Thursday. Thought it was recommended to us by others who had tried it, we were very disappointed. When we came in, there was only one other couple in the restaurant. The waitress gave us a lunch menu and didn't notice until we had already ordered. There was no drink menu but the waitress assured us that we could get whatever we wanted from the bar. My wife ordered a Cosmopolitan and I ordered a Highball. The waitress brought 2 cosmopolitans, one in a martini glass and one in a short whiskey glass. I don't drink often, so I thought I must have incorrectly remembered what a highball was. I mean, a professional bartender would know, right? Apparently not - I looked it up online and it was what I had thought all along - basically scotch and soda. Between the waitress and the bartender, they didn't know what that was, so they just gave me the same thing my wife had ordered, but in what they thought was a highball glass, only it wasn't actually a highball glass. If the guy tending bar doesn't know what a the drink is, shouldn't he ask the guy downstairs (there is a full bar downstairs)? Even wikipedia can get that one right, couldn't they just have looked it up online? They could have even just asked me to tell them, but they didn't.
When we got our food, my fish and chips was average at best. To their credit, my wife's steak sandwich was very good. We were hardly able to enjoy it, though, because just before our food arrived, a group of people showed up to play pool right behind us, including a very loud woman whose idea of a good time was to curse like a sailor at almost the top of her lungs.
Service was fairly fast, but again, we had one of only 2 tables occupied that night, so that's not really saying that much. I would very much like to support a local business, but not like this. Please, someone, open up a decent restaurant in Nampa!

Before I went to Darby's this week, I read this site and was worried about what kind of food I would be receiving. While nothing was horrible, it wasn't that great either. My friend and I both enjoyed the soup, it was great!!! The salad was pretty until you look under the mixed greens and spinach to notice that the iceberg lettuce making the bulk of the salad was beyond browned. I got the top sirloin, which was brought out cold and appeared to be butterflied, and my friend ate the salmon fish and chips. When the server brought out the salmon, he made a comment about nobody being able to bread the salmon properly. Really? Then why is on the menu? And for $18 the portion of salmon was excepectionally small, 4 little pieces. The server was attentive, but lacked any engaging personality traits. And the strangest part was that it appeared some employees were completing work in the bar downstairs, rocking out to Linkin Park (who actually rocks out to this I don't know), and yelling obscenities. I understand weekdays being slow and wanting to get other work/repairs out of the way, but at least have the smarts to put on some headphones and not yell "f***" loud enough it reverberates through the dining area.
I love to support local restaurants and have discovered Nampa to offer some great food. I live in Boise and have been to most of the fine dining there, so was very surprised how great some of the local places in Nampa are (they are wayy better than Boise). Unfortunately, I don't think Darby's will be one of the places I can support.

Yum, Yum, Yum, Yummy!!!! Darbys=
Ok, so I was home over break from college and convinced my family to try Darby's with me the night before I left. One thing I can say is if you're thinking of going late make sure to call ahead and see if they will be open since they close whenever they feel like it, depending on how busy it is. We were the last ones there because we called ahead and they said they would be open and when we got there they were closed but then they still let us eat. After this shaky beginning, and my mom being kind of rude since she didn't want to try Darbys in the first place I didn't know what to expect.
However this fear couldn't have been more unfounded. The service was incredible, the food delicious. I had the special which was filet mignoin with an amazing red sauce on it. The mashed potatoes it came with were the best I've ever had. What's more, this came with soup, salad, bread, and asparagus and was only $14.00. Afterwards I mocked my mom and her apprehension once she raved about how much she loved everything. I also can't wait to visit the bar...only six months until I'm 21!!! smilies/smiley.gif

Interesting reading. I have only recently heard of Darbys through the grapevine because they just hired a new chef (someone with a fine reputation in the culinary community). I haven't been there yet but now that I know someone is attempting to stifle yet another independent restaurant I will redouble my efforts to make it out there soon.
As a side note, giving an educated opinion of a dining experience can be good community information. With restaurants (particularly independents) struggling as more consumers cut dining out from their budgets, an attempt to say something nice or not say anything at all would be appropriate. If the restaurant employees find themselves out of a job they will not have any money to spend in your place of business.

Not bad, not great
I had a burger soup and sweet potato fries. I thought the soup was outstanding, maybe the best Ive had. The burger was a 7 or 8 on a scale of 1-10. The fries were a 2 on a 1-10. Totally overcooked even to an untrained eye. Burned is a better description. I was a little surprised the chef even let them leave the kitchen.
That being said, the service was top notch and no complaints at all. Me and my wife have decided to give Darbys a second try. Oh, I should add that the decor was very classy, we liked it.

Here it goes...
Hi everyone. I posted earlier about the similar reviews. I have eaten at Darby’s and was pretty scared to write anything on here for fear of being attacked verbally. I enjoyed the meal. The French Onion Soup was really good as was my salad with tasty ranch dressing. I had a filet steak and it was very juicy and tender. The server was very attentive and I have no real complaints. Okay, maybe a little tiny one. The kid’s menu needs chicken strips. All in all I really enjoyed the place.

I felt compelled to post my earlier similarities because I think it is absolutely a shame what this person or persons (it might be two people) is trying to do to a new restaurant. Since I am an English teacher, (I am typing this without spell check, yikes) I wanted my students to write a restaurant review for an assignment. I had just recently eaten at Darby’s and I wanted to write a review. I noticed right away that the negative posts are from the same person. Jesse and Jese are one in the same. Yes, even the latest one. So are Pamela, Keith, and Anthony. The very same person has 5 pseudonyms. This person has consistently made the very same mistakes grammatically (and a few other things) and seems to have a real personal (or maybe it’s business) vendetta against Darby’s. I am very angry. To think I was frightened to post a review because of this person is wrong. I printed these reviews out and mailed a letter to the site editor showing in great detail the results of my findings.

I think that in order to post any review you should have a receipt and comment card from the restaurant. A verified email account would also be helpful.

I wish Darby’s continued success. I am so excited for the downstairs to open. (Just because I’m a teacher doesn’t mean I can’t have a little fun.) I’ll be back and hopefully see those chicken strips on the kid’s menu.

To the person writing under these false names. Please don’t try to argue and claim your innocence. I will not respond and I believe that given enough rope even you, will hang yourself. What is so obvious to me will also be very obvious to everyone that reads this. .
